📣 Frustrated With the Changes to Nextdoor? You’re Not Alone.
We’ve been hearing from people who are frustrated with recent changes to Nextdoor — especially when it comes to how communities connect, how local businesses reach customers, and how useful local information is discovered.
At Minnesota Local, we’re paying attention.
We’re working on upgrades designed around some of the very things people tell us they want from a truly local platform:
📍 Easier ways to discover businesses in your community
🏢 Better visibility for Minnesota-owned and local businesses
📰 Local news, business stories, events, and community information
🤝 More opportunities for neighbors and businesses to connect
🔎 A platform focused specifically on Minnesota and our local communities
We’re not trying to become another giant social network.
We want to build something useful for Minnesota.
And that means we want YOUR input.
👇 If you could change ONE thing about the way local community platforms work, what would it be?
What do you miss? What frustrates you? What features would actually make you use a local platform regularly?
Tell us in the comments. We’re building — and we’re listening.

📣 The Way Businesses Reach Customers Online Is Changing
For years, small businesses have relied on social media to share updates, promote events, link to their websites, and stay connected with customers.
But the internet is changing.
Major social platforms increasingly prioritize content that keeps people inside their own ecosystems, while organic reach and the way external links are handled continue to evolve.
That doesn't mean businesses should abandon social media. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other platforms can still be incredibly valuable.
It does mean businesses should think about something important:
Are you building your online presence—or just building someone else's platform?
Your website, business profile, news stories, reviews, email list and other content you control are increasingly important pieces of the puzzle.
That's part of the thinking behind the changes we're making at Minnesota Local.
We're building a Minnesota-focused business community where businesses can create profiles, share updates, publish public posts, promote events and tell their stories.
And when a post is public, we're designing it to live on the open web—with its own public presence that can be crawlable and eligible for indexing by search engines.
We can't promise that Google or any other search engine will index a particular post.
What we can do is build the platform so your content has the opportunity to exist beyond a closed social feed.
Social media isn't going away.
But neither should your business's ability to build an online presence outside of it.
🌲 Minnesota businesses. Minnesota communities. A more open local network.

📣 Welcome to the New Minnesota Local Community!
This is more than a new feature. It's the beginning of what we hope becomes a place for Minnesota businesses, organizations, and communities to connect directly with one another.
The new Minnesota Local social feed is officially live!
Our goal is simple: create a Minnesota-focused space where local businesses can share what they're doing and where Minnesotans can discover what's happening around them.
🏢 Share business updates and accomplishments
📸 Show off recent projects
🎉 Announce grand openings and milestones
📅 Promote local events
💼 Connect with other Minnesota businesses
📣 Introduce new products and services
🤝 Share community involvement
📰 Tell your story
And there's an important difference here:
Public Minnesota Local posts are built for the open web.
Rather than existing only inside a closed social feed, public posts can have their own web presence and are designed to be crawlable and eligible for discovery by search engines.
We can't promise that every post will be indexed or appear in search results—that decision belongs to the search engines—but we're building Minnesota Local so your public content has the opportunity to be discovered beyond the feed itself.
Most importantly, we want this community to be useful.
Minnesota businesses supporting Minnesota businesses.
Minnesotans discovering what's happening locally.
And local stories getting the visibility they deserve.
Welcome to the next chapter of Minnesota Local.
👇 For our first community post, introduce yourself or your business in the comments and tell us what part of Minnesota you call home!
